COMPUTING CURRICULUM
Intent
At New Forest School, we aim to prepare our leaners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skill that will equip them for an ever changing digital world.
We endeavour to provide a safe and secure learning environment for the students which both guides and engages them in lifelong learning experiences. The curriculum has been designed To build their capacity, confidence and life skills to contribute positively with society. To gain a clearer understanding of computer based skills in order to complete tasks, which benefit in life during and after education, keeping them safe online and in society. The curriculum aims to ensure that each individual is:
- Confident and capable when using ICT systems and tools, with equal opportunity to those in a mainstream environment
- Use the internet safely, in social and work environments so as not to disadvantaged or vulnerable in an increasingly tech dependent world
- Able to develop, present and communicate information in both everyday life and work
- The appropriate aptitude achieve relevant accreditation that reflects their true potential
Curriculum Time
Key Stage 3: Computing is delivered by subject specialists with the majority of students receiving 2 dedicated Computing lesson per week.
Key Stage 4: All students receive 2 dedicated Computing lessons, delivered by subject specialists.

Depending on ability, students have the opportunity to undertake the following, nationally recognised, qualifications:
Functional Skills ICT: Level 1 – Level 2
GCSE Computing: AQA

Career Opportunities
Computing and ICT qualifications provide a stepping stone to a number of qualifications at college as well as key experience and qualifications for those choosing to gain employment or work based training.
