CONSTRUCTION
Qualification
Students study the BTEC Level 1/2 in Construction and the Built Environment which comprises of 3 units:
Construction Technology
Learning Outcomes:
- Knowledge of work of the construction industry and the different technology used
- Understanding of work of the construction industry and the different technology used
- Make connections between different construction technologies to ensure appropriateness
Construction in Practice
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand hazards and risk for safe production of a practical construction outcome
- Be able to produce a practical construction outcome.
Construction & Design
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the needs of a client and the constraints on design when designing a low-rise building.
- Be able to graphically communicate the design of a low-rise building.
Curriculum Time
Post 16 students will spend a minimum of one day per week based in our construction hub studying the construction qualification.
Their time will be a split of practical activity alongside relevant theory to support the qualification.

Resources
Our state of the art construction hub provides access to wood work/carpentry, brick laying, basic plumbing, painting/decorating and simple electrics.
Students make use of larger practical workshops as well as individual booths designed for specific skill development.
Career Opportunities
Achieving the Level 1 or Level 2 in Construction can lead to either further study at Level 2/Level 3 at a suitable further education college or allow students to apply for construction based apprenticeships.
