History
Fawley is an OFSTED Outstanding graded Primary KS2 provision, working and supporting children from the ages of 7 to 11 years. With all classes resourced to facilitate our therapeutic intent, our school site is small and personalised – designed to meet the social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs of not only the children we work with, but of the progressive stages and phases within KS2. For example, our Beech class is aimed and our younger year group with a sensory/continuous provision approach, allowing for a more play-based, informal teaching and learning delivery style. Our Maple & Pine Classes tailored towards our Year 4 & 5 pupils and our Oak and Willow classes support Upper Juniors.
Our class grouping whilst mindful of cohorts are also co-ordinated to accommodate the dynamics of our pupils, in order to galvanise a ‘team’, where positive relationships can be forged in a productive, fun and safe learning environment. With small class sizes of 4/5 children, each with a Class Teacher and Teaching Assistant, our curriculum is broad, balanced and creative, and the structure of our day flexible – empowering our teachers to embrace opportunities and provide meaningful, bespoke experiences. These small classes also allow our pupils and staff to build the secure relationships, fundamental to our children’s progress. All our class groups have designated ‘Hubs’, which are neutral safe spaces, used for regulation, interventions, or reward for example. These can be accessed by all our children, who, through their: ‘Timeout’, Individual Behavioural and Learning Plans, designed with our children – can take ownership over how and when they need to use them. Along with our ‘Hubs’, we also have a designated Occupational Therapy room.
Focus
The long-term aim is to focus use of the Fawley Site for KS2 students only, focusing on developing and implementing a highly specialised collaborative curriculum, which incorporates health, therapy, such as Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language and ELSA working together with teachers to support our young people to reach their potential.
Facilities
The site currently comprises of a main school building with 4 classrooms, 1:1 work rooms, reception and Pastoral/ELSA space. A separate building houses our fully equipped Science room. A separate building is currently a maths classroom, OT room, with a separate kitchen and toilets. A separate building houses offices, a pastoral office, first aid room, and a quiet area for students, as well as the ICT/MFL room, small 1:1 room and music room.
A large multi-surface playground provides PE and break time facilities whilst there is a small area of outdoor space, which laid to lawn and has picnic benches and a designated learning space.
Students
Students come from a variety of social backgrounds, with a range of educational, social and emotional needs. The school will specialise in working with students with ASC, SEMH, attachment disorders and areas of mental health. Many of the students will have been out of fulltime education for a significant length of time. Links with the Outdoor Learning centre are established and transition for some students carefully managed and planned.
Children will require an EHCP to be referred to the school with places usually being commissioned by Local Authorities.
The school will offer full time and part time attendance to meet the needs of individual students. The school focuses on students from Year 4 -7.
