KS2 Languages

Young children are learning new words everyday in their own language and have no self consciousness about using words they are unfamiliar with. This is the perfect time to start learning a second or third language.

At Key Stage 2, students learn to imitate accurate pronunciation and intonation and to hold short conversations; asking and answering questions, expressing opinions and responding to those of others.

They explore the patterns and sounds of Spanish through stories, songs and games and start to link the spelling, sound and meaning of words. They begin to use context and clues to interpret meaning and are encouraged to apply their knowledge of English and other languages to learning Spanish.

We use a variety of teaching resources at key Stage 2 including, BBC Primary Languages, ¡Es Español! and Languagenut which is a bright and lively interactive online resource and has proved very effective in supporting the learning of vocabulary and grammar.
